Swing Gate Ajar Switch - Operation

SWING GATE

The swing gate ajar switch is actuated by the swing gate latch mechanism. When the swing gate is closed and properly latched, its swing gate ajar switch is an open circuit. When the swing gate is open or only partially latched, the swing gate ajar switch is a closed circuit. The swing gate ajar switch is hard wired in series between a body ground and the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). The TIPM reads the hard wired swing gate ajar switch input through an internal pull-up, then uses this input to control many electronic functions and features of the vehicle. The TIPM also sends electronic swing gate ajar switch status messages over the Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus.

The swing gate ajar switch as well as the hard wired inputs and outputs of the switch may be diagnosed using conventional diagnostic tools and procedures. Refer to the appropriate wiring information.
