Oxygen Sensor - Removal
REMOVAL
Special Tools:
CAUTION: Never apply any type of grease to the oxygen sensor electrical connector, or attempt any repair of the sensor wiring harness.
WARNING: The exhaust manifold, exhaust pipes and catalytic converter become very hot during engine operation. Allow engine to cool before removing oxygen sensor.
The right upstream O2 sensor is referred to as the 1/1 sensor. The right downstream O2 sensor is referred to as the 1/2 sensor.
The left upstream O2 sensor is referred to as the 2/1 sensor. The left downstream O2 sensor is referred to as the 2/2 sensor.
NOTE: Right side oxygen sensors shown, left side similar.
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the O2 sensor.
CAUTION: When disconnecting the oxygen sensor electrical connector, do not pull directly on the wire going into the sensor. The sensor wiring can be damaged resulting in sensor failure.
3. Using Oxygen Sensor Socket C-4907or equivalent, remove the O2 sensor (1) or (2). Certain sensors may be removed with a 22 mm or 7/8" wrench.
4. Clean the threads in the exhaust pipe using an appropriate tap.
