Air Bag Systems: Testing and Inspection
On vehicles which have experienced an SRS deployment, certain system components must be replaced. To determine which components require replacement, refer to the General Information section located at the front of this manual. To ensure proper system operation on any vehicle involved in a collision, perform procedures described under Diagnosis and Testing. All system components should be inspected for dents, cracks, exposure to excessive heat and other damage. The steering wheel and column should also be inspected. All SRS wiring should be inspected for chafing and interference with other vehicle components. If a vehicle has any degree of frontal body damage, the front sensors should be inspected for dents, cracks, deformation and other damage and replaced with new units as needed. Ensure sensors are securely mounted. When repairing the vehicle, the SRS should be disarmed as outlined under Technician Safety Information. Also, when performing service procedures, do not expose sensors, wiring or other SRS components to heat guns, welding or spray guns.
