Sportage Rear Window Regulators
This bulletin provides information relating to improved Sportage rear window regulators.
Some Sportages built before 3/11/02 may experience intermittent operation. To correct this condition, an improved power window motor and regulator assembly has been implemented. The new window regulator may be used as a field fix for in-use complaint vehicles built before 3/11/02.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Turn ignition on and lower window. Turn ignition off.
2. Using door trim panel tool, remove inner glass weatherstrip along top of door panel by prying up to loosen then lifting up and off from door panel.
3. Remove one screw at latch handle and one screw at pull handle.
4. Using door trim panel tool, loosen clips around entire edge of door trim panel.
5. Remove door trim panel and disconnect power window switch.
Note:
Latch handle will fit through hole in door trim panel, do not disconnect linkage.
6. Remove two screws at pull handle bracket.
7. Peel off moisture barrier.
8. Remove two bolts holding glass to window regulator.
9. Slide glass to all the way up and use duct or masking tape to secure glass to door frame.
10. Disconnect power window motor connector.
11. Remove three nuts at motor, two nuts at top of regulator and one bolt at bottom of regulator.
12. Remove the window regulator through the large access hole in door panel.
13. Install the new window regulator into the door.
14. Reinstall the five attaching nuts and one bolt, torque to 6-8 lb-ft (11 Nm).
15. Reconnect power window motor connector.
16. Carefully remove tape from glass, slide window down and align with window regulator.
17. Reinstall the two glass mounting bolts.
CAUTION
Hand tighten only! Do not overtighten!
18. Reinstall the moisture barrier, pull handle bracket and door trim panel in reverse order of removal.
19. Check for proper operation of the window regulator and door glass.
AFFECTED PRODUCTION RANGE:
2001 MY and 2002MY Sportage with production dates between 6/1/00 and 3/11/02.
