Self Diagnosis
The ECM monitor the input/output signals. (Some signals at all times and the others under specified conditions) When the ECM detects an irregularity, the trouble code is to be saved in memory and the output signal sent to the self-diagnosis output terminal. The diagnosis result is read on Hi-scan.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will remain in the ECM as long as the battery power is maintained.
The diagnostic trouble code will however, be erased when the battery terminal or engine control unit (ECM) connector is disconnected, or erased by the Hi-scan.
Inspection procedures (self-diagnosis)
NOTE: 1. When the battery voltage is low, diagnostic trouble codes can not be read. Be sure to check the battery for voltage and charging system prior to starting the test.
2. Diagnosis memory is erased if the battery or ECM connector is disconnected.
Inspection Procedures (using Hi-scan)
1. Turn OFF the ignition switch
2. Connect Hi-scan to the data link at the lower part of crash pad.
3. Turn ON the ignition switch.
4. Use the Hi-scan to check the diagnostic trouble code.
5. Repair the faulty part referencing the diagnosis chart.
6. Erase the diagnostic trouble code.
7. Disconnect the Hi-scan.
