A/C - Rear A/C Siren/Whooping Noise
SOURCE: KIA Technician Times Volume 7 Issue 2, 2004TITLE: Rear A/C Noise
APPLIES TO: Sedona
SERVICE TIP:
Some Sedona owners have complained of an intermittent abnormal noise from the rear A/C unit. Customers may relate the noise to a siren or whooping noise heard after a half-hour or an hour of operation. The noise is present with the A/C ON only. During A/C operation variable high pressure liquid refrigerant flows into the expansion valve sometimes causing the rod and ball to vibrate against the housing causing the related noises. A new and improved expansion valve is being used on vehicles built after 12/20/03, an anti-vibration spring has been added to the expansion valve assembly to eliminate the noise (see photo). Once you have confirmed the condition described, replace the expansion valve with the improved P/N 1K56E 61R16B.
