A/T - Cooler Flushing Information

SOURCE: Kia PitStop

TITLE: Automatic Transmission Cooler Flushing Information

APPLIES TO: All models

SERVICE TIP:

Whenever an automatic transmission is replaced, the A/T cooler must be flushed to remove any metal and friction material contaminants. Improper or lack of flushing may result in severe damage to the replacement transmission.

Note:
It is very important to check for proper flow in both directions during flushing. Special attention should be given to repeat A/T failures and overheated/slipping failures. These failures generally deposit debris in the A/T cooler which can restrict flow and overheat or contaminate the replacement unit. If the A/T cooler does not flow freely in both directions during flushing, then replace the radiator/A/T cooler.
