A/T - Shift Flare/Harsh Engagement/Late Shifts
SOURCE: KIA Technician Times Volume 8 Issue 2, 2005TITLE: Transaxle Shift Concerns
APPLIES TO: Sedona
SERVICE TIP:
The Sedona PCM has adaptive shift logic. Transaxle Shift concerns including shift flare, harsh engagement and late shifts can be caused by baseline parameters being shifted out of the normal range. If you have a vehicle with the listed concerns perform the following procedure:
^ Drive the vehicle until the ATF temperature is above 122F or 50C (adaptive learning does not occur below this temperature).
^ Check the transaxle fluid level and condition.
^ Using the Hi-Scan Pro inspect for transmission and engine codes. If codes are present diagnose according to procedures listed in the Service Manual or on KSIS.
^ Disconnect the negative battery cable and step on the brake pedal for 10-15 seconds then reconnect the negative battery cable.
^ Accelerate the vehicle through several (5) 1-2-3-4-5 up-shifts and 5-4-3-2-1 down-shifts at light and medium throttle openings. Due to PCM transaxle logic, adaptive learning for the 2-3 shift takes longer than the 1-2, or 3-4-5 shifts.
