Service Campaign: Sorento Hood Anti-Corrosion Treatment

This bulletin provides information on a service campaign to apply anti-corrosion wax to hood seams in 2003MY Sorento models produced prior to 10/16/02.





An insufficient quantity of anti-corrosion wax may have been applied to hood panel seams around the grille area, in vehicles with production dates before 10/16/02. To ensure adequate long term corrosion protection, Kia is conducting a service campaign to apply additional anti- corrosion wax to the hood seams on affected vehicles.

There is no charge to the customer for this repair.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

WARNING
Procedure should be performed in well ventilated area. Avoid breathing fumes. Safety glasses should be worn at all times.

1. Open hood.





2. Remove ten nuts securing grill to hood.





3. Squeeze tabs on grill retainers and push to remove grill.





4. Blow compressed air through openings in hood sheet metal to remove any moisture or debris as shown.

Make certain hood seams around grille are free of dirt, mud, etc.





5. Cover bumper and shroud panel to protect from overspray, lower hood.

CAUTION
Uncured cavity wax should not be exposed to ignition sources. Keep away from sparks, flames or excessive heat.





6. Shake cavity wax can well, insert spray nozzle into opening at edge of grill opening and spray up towards corner of hood.





7. Change angle of spray nozzle and spray following front edge of hood.





8. Spray cavity wax between panels at lower grill opening.





9. Spray between panels at front bottom edge of hood.





10. Wipe off excess cavity wax from exterior surfaces.





11. Allow vehicle to sit a few minutes for wax to begin to set up (about 5 minutes is sufficient).

12. Make sure water drain holes at bottom corners of hood are not plugged with cavity wax.

13. Reinstall grill.

14. Clean up any overspray on bumper, hood or windshield.

AFFECTED PRODUCTION RANGE:

All Sorento models with production dates prior to 10/16/02.
