Fuel System - Pressure Check
SOURCE: KIA Technician Times Volume 6 Issue 3, 2003TITLE: Fuel Pressure Check
APPLIES TO: Sorento
SERVICE TIP:
KMA has received reports of incorrect fuel pressure readings and/or interpretations on Sorento, possibly related to ambiguous Service Manual information. As a result, technicians may unnecessarily condemn and replace the fuel pump. The 2003 MY Sorento Service Manual specifies fuel pressure as 46.9 to 48.3 psi. (page FL-2, under Fuel Pressure Regulator) The value shown however, is the "unregulated" pressure as would be checked with vacuum line disconnected from the regulator. Actual regulated "running" pressure (to be checked at idle with vacuum line connected to the regulator) is approximately 39 psi.
To measure fuel pressure, install the quick-disconnect adapter "D" and fuel gauge (from the SST Fuel Pressure Kit) at the connection between the main (supply) hose and the metal supply line, located on the frame rail, at the right-hand side of the engine. The main (supply) line is located in front of the return line.
