2004MY 5-Speed M/T Sorento ECM Reprogramming





This bulletin provides information relating to a logic change in ECM software for Sorento vehicles with manual transmission to correct cold start hesitation. Some 2004MY Sorento vehicles built prior to 6/3/04 may exhibit a hesitation on cold drive-away. If you have a vehicle with a cold hesitation complaint with a production date prior to 6/3/04, follow the reprogramming procedures in this bulletin using the equipment shown below.

WARNING
A fully charged battery is necessary before programming can take place. DO NOT connect a battery charger to the vehicle during reprogramming. Make sure the blower motor is OFF during programming

All reprogramming must be done with the ignition key in the "ON" position.

Do NOT disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or Hi-Scan Pro during the reprogramming procedure.

DO NOT start the engine during reprogramming.

DO NOT turn the ignition key "OFF" or interrupt the power supply during reprogramming. When the reprogramming is completed, turn the ignition key "OFF" and wait 20 seconds before starting the engine.

ONLY use approved reprogramming programs designated for the correct model, year and engine size. Failure to do so may create other driveability issues due to the use of incorrect ECM/PCM calibration.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE:





1. Check the production date on the FMVSS door label to determine if vehicle falls within the production range.

2. Use the Hi-Scan Pro to identify the ECM calibration in the vehicle by entering "SORENTO", "MODEL YEAR", "ENGINE CONTROL", ECU ROM I.D.

^ If the calibration identification on line 1 is "EH9619-F3", then the vehicle has the latest calibration - DO NOT REPROGRAM.

^ If the calibration identification is "EH9619-F0" or "EH9619-F1", proceed to Reprogramming Procedure.

REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE:





1. Connect reprogramming adapter to Hi-Scan Pro as shown on previous page.

2. Connect DLC adapter cable to reprogramming adapter cable connector.





3. Remove the program card from the upper slot on the Hi-Scan Pro tool and insert the reprogramming card with yellow sticker. Program card needs to be loaded with the latest software.





4. Connect auxiliary power supply cable receptacle (from Hi-Scan Pro) to positive and negative battery terminals.





5. Connect power supply plug (lighter-style plug) to receptacle, and plug reprogramming adapter power supply plug into bottom of power supply plug as shown.





6. Connect the white DLC connector to the under hood DLC connector.





7. Turn ignition key to "ON".

8. Turn Hi-Scan Pro tool ON, select option 19: "SORENTO 3.5L M/T FUEL COMPENSATION" from the Hi-Scan Pro screen, press the "ENTER" key.

WARNING
Only use programs designated for correct model year and engine size.





9. Select option 01: (SORENTO) "BL 3.5L M/T FUEL COMPENSATION (AUTO)" and press the "ENTER" key.





10. At the prompt, enter password "0525" and press the "ENTER" key. Reprogramming will proceed as shown on the following pages.





* NOTICE
Power supply interruptions will prevent proper reprogramming. Make sure plugs are securely and completely inserted.





11. Hi-Scan Pro will display total check sum and main check sum on the screen.





12. The Hi-Scan Pro will reprogram the ECM automatically.





13. When the "REPROGRAMMING COMPLETED" message is displayed, check the new ECM ID displayed on the Hi-Scan Pro screen to verify that the correct ECM software has been downloaded. Proceed to Step 21.

* NOTICE
If the reprogramming did NOT complete properly or was interrupted, repeat the process using the following procedure.





14. Select option 19. SORENTO "3.5L M/T FUEL COMPENSATION and press "ENTER".





15. Select option 02: (SORENTO) "BL 3.5L M/T FUEL COMPENSATION (ERROR)" and press "ENTER".





16. Select option 01: "BL3.5 M/T -IMMO: 39106-39452 and press "ENTER".

Note:
Vehicles produced for the U.S. Market do NOT use the Immobilizer System. Select -IMMO during reprogramming.








17. Enter the password for the manual update mode from the chart and then press "ENTER".





18. Hi-Scan Pro will display total check sum and main check sum on the screen.





19. The Hi-Scan Pro will reprogram the ECM manually.





20. When the "REPROGRAMMING COMPLETED" message is displayed, check the new ECM ID display on the Hi-Scan Pro screen to verify that the correct ECM software has been downloaded.





21. Remove cover from engine compartment fuse box, remove 10 amp powertrain (PI/RN) fuse and wait for a minimum of 20 seconds. Reinstall fuse and replace fuse box cover.

22. Start engine and verify normal operation.

AFFECTED PRODUCTION RANGE:

All Sorento vehicles with production dates prior to 6/3/04.
