Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL)
MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT (MIL)The MIL lights up to notify the driver that there is a problem with the vehicle.
However the MIL will go off automatically after 3 subsequent sequential driving cycles that do not redetected the same malfunctions.
Immediately after the ignition switch is turned on, the MIL is lit for 5 seconds to indicate that the light operates normally.
The following Items can be indicated by the MIL:
- Catalyst
- Fuel system
- Air flow sensor (AFS)
- Intake Air Temperature Sensor (ATS)
- Water Temperature Sensor (WTS)
- Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
- Front O2 Sensor
- Rear O2 Sensor Heater
- Rear O2 Sensor
- Front O2 Sensor Heater
- Injector
- Misfire
- Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP)
- Camshaft Position Sensor (TDC)
- Evaporative Emission Control System
- Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
- Idle Speed Control
- ECU
- Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP)
- Idle Switch
INSPECTING THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL)
1. After turning the ignition key on, check that the light illuminates for 5 seconds without the engine running.
2. If the light does not illuminate, check for an open circuit in the harness, blown fuse and blown bulb.
