Subject
2006/2007 Sedona (VQ) Engine Overheating - Cooling Fans Do Not Operate Correctly - Possible DTC P0480

- Description

This Pitstop addresses a concern in some 2006 and 2007 Sedona (VQ), which may experience engine overheating, improper cooling fan operation or poor A/C performance. In some cases, DTC P0480 is set. Technicians have replaced the fan speed controller (PWM) module in an attempt to correct this concern. In almost all cases the fan speed controller (PWM) module was not the root cause of the problem.

Do NOT replace the fan speed controller (PWM) module before first performing the following cursory procedures:

When investigating engine overheating, cooling fans inoperative, or a concern of poor A/C performance on a Sedona (VQ), follow the diagnostic procedure for P0480 provided on GDS. Pay particular attention to grounds G14 and G15, and repair as necessary. G14 and G15 supply ground for the fan speed controller, and in nearly all studied cases have been the root cause of this concern. In some cases, connections at the controller have also contributed to the problem.

Kia Motors America recommends that grounds G14 and G15, along with fan speed controller connections in the same general vicinity, be checked at the same time.
