Sedona (VQ) PCM Reprogram (DTC P0441/P0128) (Engine - 025) (UPDATED 2007-08-16)

Description

This Service Bulletin provides information related to a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) upgrade. Some 2006 Sedona (VQ) vehicles with a 3.8L (6 cylinder) engine built on or before June 12th, 2006 may experience a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) "ON" condition with DTC P0441 (Evap. Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow) and/or DTC P0128 (Engine Coolant Thermostat Open/Stuck) stored in the PCM memory even though no component or circuit related malfunction exists.

To correct this condition, the PCM should be reprogrammed using the Hi-Scan Pro/GDS download as described in this bulletin before attempting to repair this concern.

Note:
Global Diagnostic System (GDS) users should access the "Notice" function from the GDS Main Screen for instructions regarding reprogramming events.

NOTICE:
^ Afully charged battery is necessary before reprogramming can take place. DO NOT connect a battery charger to the vehicle during reprogramming. Make sure the blower motor is "OFF" during programming.

^ All reprogramming must be done with the ignition key in the "ON" position.

^ Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or Hi-Scan Pro during the reprogramming procedure.

^ DO NOT start the engine during reprogramming.

^ DO NOT turn the ignition key "OFF" or interrupt the power supply during reprogramming

^ When the reprogramming is completed, turn the ignition key "OFF" and wait 20 seconds before starting the engine.

^ ONLY use approved reprogramming software designed for the correct model, year and engine size. Failure to do so may create other drivability issues due to the use of the incorrect ECM/PCM calibration.

ECU ROM ID INFORMATION TABLE

Download the latest Hi-Scan Pro reprogramming software for the 32MB (blue label) reprogramming card from the "Downloads" page on the Kia Global Information System (KGIS)
