Background:

Kia Motors America (KMA) has published paint code information for all Kia models up to and including 2004MY vehicles.

Since the 2005 model year, KMA has not published paint code information for Kia vehicles as this information is readily available from most paint manufacturers. However, in some instances KMA may publish limited paint information where immediate notification to the dealer is necessary.

Service Procedure

Paint Formulation and Coding Process:





^ KMA provides paint codes and standards along with model application data for each new model to the paint manufacturers shown in the table above.

^ Each paint manufacturer then creates a formulation for each standard and assigns their paint code to that formulation.

^ The codes and formulations are then stored in their databases.

^ Each paint manufacturer then performs color audits to verify that their paint formulation matches the color of paint on current production vehicles.

^ If color variations are found, another paint formula is produced and is coded as a variant of the original.

Both the original and variant paint formulations are available through the paint manufacturer's websites, hotlines or their local paint representative. Additionally, each paint manufacturer produces a book having color chips that represent every color and model application for each automotive manufacturer's vehicles.
