SUBJECT:
FUEL TANK AIR FILTER MAINTENANCE REMINDER

This bulletin provides information related to the fuel tank air filter in the 2003~2006 Kia Sorento (BL) vehicles. The fuel tank air filter prevents dirt from entering the fuel system during purging of the charcoal canister assembly and also allows cleaned air to move from the fuel tank back into the environment during the refueling process. Over time, the filter slowly accumulates dirt which can restrict air flow, if proper maintenance does not occur. A filter which is not properly maintained can cause fueling difficulties, and if allowed to continue over a prolonged period of time with particular environmental conditions, such fueling difficulties can become severe.

To prevent this condition, the fuel tank air filter should be inspected every 15,000 miles, and if necessary, replaced However, under no circumstances should the vehicle be allowed to go more than 30,000 miles without a fuel tank filter replacement If the mileage duration since the last fuel tank filter replacement cannot be clearly determined, you should recommend to the customer that the fuel tank air filter should be replaced

Check EPO for proper application.

*NOTICE

If a customer reports a complaint of difficulty in refueling, the fuel tank air filter should be inspected and replaced, before any other fuel system parts are replaced. The fuel tank filter is a maintenance item and is not covered by warranty.
