Description





This bulletin provides information related to light bulb replacement in the 2003-2006 Sorento (BL) HVAC control head. The replacement light bulbs are available separately as a service replacement part. Kia recommends replacing all three (3) control head light bulbs at the same time. When replacing the light bulbs of the HVAC control head assembly, follow these replacement procedure instructions.

Service Procedure





1. Remove the center fascia side trim panels. Carefully insert a small screwdriver tip into the end of the center vent assembly and pull rearward to disengage retaining clips.





2. Remove the left and right center fascia panels as shown.





3. Remove four (4) retaining screws holding control head to the dashboard assembly.





4. Disconnect three (3) electrical connectors from the control head. Remove control head from the vehicle for bulb replacement.





5. Place on clean covered bench for replacement of light bulbs. Remove five (5) screws from the upper cover, then remove the cover from the control head assembly.





6. Remove four (4) screws from the rear housing.





7. Carefully spread the sides outward to disengage the front trim panel from the rear housing.





8. Twist and remove the light bulbs from temperature and mode rotary knobs.

a) Remove four (4) screws to remove circuit board from the trim assembly.

9. Remove three (3) screws from the blower switch control and remove blower switch from rear of circuit board.





NOTICE:
There are 3 separate bulbs in the manual HVAC control head; ensure that all bulbs (3) are replaced at the same time.

10. Twist and separate light bulb from blower control circuit board.





11. Install blower control switch to the circuit board. Align blower switch to the blower knob as shown in diagram.





NOTICE:
It is very important that the blower control knob and the blower switch are installed properly as shown in photo.





12. Install and tighten three (3) retaining screws.

a) Install circuit board to the trim panel and install four (4) screws.

b) Carefully spread the sides outward to engage the front trim panel to rear housing.

c) Install four (4) screws to the rear housing.

d) Install the upper cover and install five (5) screws on the upper cover.

e) Re-connect the three (3) electrical connectors to the control head.

f) Install four (4) retaining screws holding control head to the dash-board assembly

g) Install the left and right center fascia panels.

h) Cycle ignition ON and test lighting and functions of the HVAC control panel.

i) Repair is complete
