B1911
B1911Component Location:
General Description
DDM is a node of CAN communication system which consists of IPM. FAM, RAM, ADM, IMS. Main function of DDM is lock/unlock of door and window, adjusting position and fold/unfold of outside mirror. Outside mirror module consists of motor and position sensor. According to Outside mirror Switch signal, Outside mirror motor adjusts position of mirror and position sensor delivers result to DDM by voltage value.
DTC Description
The ECM sets DTC B1911 if signal voltage of left outside mirror vertical sensor is out of range.
DTC Detecting Condition:
Schematic Diagram:
Monitor Scantool Data
1. Connect scantool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
2. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
3. Select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)" mode and monitor "DTC Status" parameter
4. Is the DTC B1911 present?
YES - Go to "Inspection & Repair" procedure
NO - Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor's and/or ECM's connector or was repaired and ECM memory was not cleared.
Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
Terminal and Connector Inspection
1. Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals.
Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.
2. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.
3. Has a problem been found?
YES - Repair as necessary and go to "Verification Vehicle Repair" procedure
NO - Go to "W/Harness Inspection" procedure
Signal Circuit Inspection
Check for short in harness
1. Ignition "OFF"
2. Disconnect left outside mirror.
3. Measure resistance between terminal "13" of left outside mirror and chassis ground
Specification : Approx. Infinity ohms
4. Is the measured resistance within specifications?
YES - Go to "Power circuit Inspection" procedure.
NO - Check for short in signal harness. Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
Power Supply Circuit Inspection
Motor Power circuit Inspection
1. Ignition "OFF"
2. Disconnect left outside mirror.
3. Measure resistance between terminal "10" of DDM and chassis ground
4. Measure resistance between terminal "11" of DDM and chassis ground
Specification : Approx. Infinity ohms
5. Is the measured resistance within specifications?
YES - Go to "Sensor Power circuit Inspection" procedure.
NO - Check for short in power harness. Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
Sensor Power circuit Inspection
6. Ignition "ON" & Engine "OFF"
7. Disconnect left outside mirror.
8. Measure voltage between terminal "16" of left outside mirror and chassis ground
Specification : Approx. 5 V
9. Is the measured voltage within specifications?
YES - Go to "Component Inspection" procedure.

Component Inspection
Check left outside mirror motor
1. Connect scantool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
2. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
3. Select 'ACTUATION TEST' mode on scantool and press [F1] to start
4. Does left outside mirror motor work properly?
YES - Go to "Check left outside mirror sensor" procedure.
NO - Substitute with a known-good left outside mirror and check for proper operation.
If the problem is corrected, replace left outside mirror and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
Check left outside mirror sensor
5. Connect scantool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
6. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
7. Measure voltage value between terminal "13" of outside mirror and chassis ground. While operating outside mirror switch
Specification : bottom end -> approx. 1.13 V, upper end -> approx. 4.14 V
8. Is the measured voltage within specifications?
YES - Go to "Check DDM" procedure.
NO - Substitute with a known-good left outside mirror and check for proper operation.
If the problem is corrected, replace left outside mirror and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
Check DDM
9. Connect scantool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
10. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
11. Measure voltage value between terminal "10, 11" of outside mirror and chassis ground. While operating outside mirror switch
Specification : 9 - 16 V
12. Is the measured voltage within specifications?
YES - Check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
NO - Substitute with a known-good DDM and check for proper operation.
If the problem is corrected, replace DDM and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
Verification of Vehicle Repair
After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.
1. Connect scantool and select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)" mode and then clear DTC
2. Operate the vehicle and monitor the DTC on the scantool
3. Are any DTCs present?
YES - Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure
NO - System is performing to specification at this time.
