B2119

B2119

Component Location:

General Description
FAM is a part of BCM with DDM, ADM, IPM, RAM, IMS and Cluster module. Each part of BCM is connected to one another through CAN communication line for efficient communication. Those modules control front/rear, driver/passenger seat, cluster with electrical signal and they share information with other modules. FAM (Front Area Module) set up at engine room controls various lamps (fog lamp, head lamp, stop lamp, turn signal lamp), wiper and performs system error checking as well. Received wind shield defogger switch signal from IPM through CAN line, FAM controls wind shield defogger.

DTC Description
The ECM sets DTC B2119 if open/short in wind shield defogger circuit or relay failure is detected.

DTC Detecting Condition:

Schematic Diagram:

Monitor Scantool Data
1. Connect scantool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
2. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
3. Select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)" mode and monitor "DTC Status" parameter
4. Is the DTC B2119 present?

YES
a. Go to "Inspection & Repair" procedure

NO
a. Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor's and/or ECM's connector or was repaired and ECM memory was not cleared. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Terminal and Connector Inspection
1. Electrical systems consist of a lot of harness and connectors, poor connection of terminals can cause various problems and damage of component.
2. Check poor connection, beding, corrosion, contamination, deformation of connector and it terminals.
3. Is any problem found?

YES
a. Repair if necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair".

NO
a. Go to W/Harness Inspection.

Power Supply Circuit Inspection

Check open in power circuit
1. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
2. Measure the resistance between wind shield defogger power circuit of FAM (BEC-FE-3) and wind shield defogger (E04-2).

Specification : 0 ohms

3. Is the measured resistance within the specification?

YES
a. Go to "Check short in power circuit".

NO
a. Repair open in power circuit and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair".

Check short in power circuit
4. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
5. Disconnect wind shield defogger.
6. Measure the resistance between wind shield defogger power circuit of FAM (BEC-FE-3) and chassis ground.

Specification : Infinity ohms

7. Is the measured resistance within the specification?

YES
a. Go to "Ground Circuit Inspection".

NO
a. Repair open in power circuit and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair".

Ground Circuit inspection

Check open in ground circuit
1. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
2. Measure the resistance between wind shield defogger (E04-1) and chassis ground.

Specification : 0 ohms

3. Is the measured resistance within the specification?

YES
a. Go to "Component Inspection".

NO
a. Repair open in ground circuit and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair".

Component Inspection

Check wind shield defogger
1. Connect scantool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
2. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
3. Check if DTC is erased after replacing defogger with "defogger for test".
4. Is the DTC erased?

YES
a. Replace "defogger for test" with "new defogger" and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair".

NO
a. Go to "Check FAM".

Check FAM
5. Connect scantool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
6. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
7. Check if DTC is erased after replacing FAM with "FAM for test".
8. Is the DTC erased?

YES
a. Replace "FAM for test" with "new FAM" and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair".

NO
a. Check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace if necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Verification of Vehicle Repair
After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.
1. Connect scantool and select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)" mode and then clear DTC
2. Operate the vehicle within DTC Enable conditions in General information.
3. Are any DTCs present?

YES
a. Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure

NO
a. System is performing to specification at this time.
