B2521

B2521

Component Location:

General Description
FAM is a part of BCM with DDM, ADM, IPM, RAM, IMS and Cluster module. Each part of BCM is connected to one another through CAN communication line for efficient communication. Those modules control front/rear, driver/passenger seat, cluster with electrical signal and they share information with other modules. FAM (Front Area Module) set up at engine room controls various lamps (fog lamp, head lamp, stop lamp, turn signal lamp), wiper and performs system error checking as well. The power of stop lamp is supplied from the power line through FAM stop lamp RAM lamp in sequence. Controlling stop lamp is performed at FAM and RAM. FAM transfers power from "HOT AT ALL TIMES power circuit" to stop lamp switch and via RAM, this power is supplied to stop lamp. Furthermore, RAM senses stop lamp circuit error as well.

DTC Description
The ECM sets DTC B2521 if open in stop lamp circuit is detected between "HOT AT ALL TIMES power circuit" and FAM.

DTC Detecting Condition:

Schematic Diagram:

Monitor Scantool Data
1. Connect scantool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
2. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
3. Select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)" mode and monitor "DTC Status" parameter
4. Is the DTC B2521 present?

YES
a. Go to "Inspection & Repair" procedure

NO
a. Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor's and/or ECM's connector or was repaired and ECM memory was not cleared. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Terminal and Connector Inspection
1. Electrical systems consist of a lot of harness and connectors, poor connection of terminals can cause various problems and damage of component.
2. Check poor connection, beding, corrosion, contamination, deformation of connector and it terminals.
3. Is any problem found?

YES
a. Repair if necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair".

NO
a. Go to "Component Inspection".

Component Inspection

Check FUSE
1. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
2. Disconnect stop lamp fuse of FAM and check its state.
3. Is fuse OK?

YES
a. Go to "Check FAM".

NO
a. Replacing the fuse with 'stop lamp fuse for test', if normal operating condition is confirmed, Replace 'stop lamp fuse for test' with new stop lamp and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair".

Check FAM
4. Connect scantool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
5. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF", FAM : ON
6. Measure the voltage between stop lamp power circuit of FAM (BCM-FE-34) and chassis ground.

Specification : 12 V

7. Is the measured voltage within the specification?

YES
a. Check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace if necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

NO
a. Replacing the FAM with FAM for test, if normal operating condition is confirmed, Replace FAM for test with new FAM and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair".

Verification of Vehicle Repair
After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.
1. Connect scantool and select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)" mode and then clear DTC
2. Operate the vehicle within DTC Enable conditions in General information.
3. Are any DTCs present?

YES
a. Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure

NO
a. System is performing to specification at this time.
