2007-2008 Sorento Intermittent Weak Audio Reception
All 2007-2008 MY Sorento models are equipped with Delphi (Delco Electronics) Audio units which are equipped with DIGITAL AM/FM audio turners. The logic of these digital turners is much different then previous analog turners. When diagnosing what may appear to be a faulty AM/FM turner with intermittent loss of high frequency or sound volume fluctuation, please refer to the information below.
These digital turners are different from conventual analog turners in how they respond to a weak radio station signal. When a weak signal condition is encountered, the audio will attempt to maintain a good frequency response and low (static) noise by temporarily limiting the high frequency information. This strategy dramatically reduces the amount of background noise and static heard by the listener, the trade-off being a temporary reduction of 12dB at 10kHz for 1 second or more (the actual duration depends on the length of the weak signal condition).
Depending on the type of music or talk program, this reduction can be noticeable. This may sound like: Volume Fluctuates or a temporary loss of "highs", "treble", or a stereo signal temporarily going mono.
This condition is NORMAL and will only last for the duration of the weak signal conditio and will improve as soon as the signal strength improves.
