Repair Procedures

Removal

1. Disconnect the battery (-) terminal.




2. Remove the front propeller shaft(A). (4WD)




3. Remove the front muffler(A) or muffler hanger rubber(B), by removing rear muffler(C).












4. Remove the rear propeller shaft(A).




5. Support the transaxle with a jack

CAUTION:
Be careful not to give a shock or damage to the plastic oil pan.

6. Disconnect the oxygen sensor(A) connector.




7. Remove the exhaust manifold stay bolt (A).








8. Remove the cross member(A).




9. Remove the insulator support bracket(A).




10. Disconnect the shift cable assembly (B) by removing the nut (A-3ea)




11. Disconnect the 4WD ECU connector(A) or EMC connector(B).




12. Disconnect the transmission wire harness connectors(A)




13. Remove the oil cooler pipes(A).




14. Remove the under cover bolts(A-10).




15. Remove the drive plate cover(A).




16. Remove the torque converter mounting bolts (A-6ea) by rotating the crank shaft.




17. Remove the transmission lower mounting bolts(A).




18. Remove the mounting bolts (A-2ea) for the starter motor.




19. Remove the mounting bolts (A-2ea).





CAUTION:
Before removing one mounting bolt on the transmission side and the other bolt for the starter motor, remove the cross member and lower the transmission assembly.

20. Remove the mounting bolts (A-4ea) on the transmission side.




21. Disconnect the CKP sensor(A).




22. Remove the transmission assembly by lowering the supporting jack.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage tubes, hoses or wire.

23. Remove the mounting bolts(A,B-4ea) and the transfer assembly.










Installation

1. Install the mounting bolts(A,B-4ea) and the transfer assembly.

Tightening torque :
30-42 Nm(3.0-4.2 kgf.m, 21.6-30.3 lb-ft)









2. Lowering the vehicle or lifting up a jack, install the transmission assembly.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage tubes, hoses or wire.

3. Connect the CKP sensor(A).




4. Install the mounting bolts (A-4ea) on the transmission side.




5. Install the mounting bolts (A-2ea).




6. Install the mounting bolts (A-2ea) for the starter motor.




7. Install the transmission lower mounting bolts(A).




8. Install the torque converter mounting bolts (A-6ea) by rotating the crank shaft.

Tightening torque :
45 - 52Nm (4.6 - 5.3kgf.m, 33.2 - 38.3lb-ft)





9. Install the drive plate cover(A).




10. Install the under cover bolts(A-10).




11. Install the oil cooler pipes(A).




12. Connect the transmission wire harness connectors(A)




13. Connect the 4WD ECU connector(A) or EMC connector(B).




14. Connect the shift cable assembly (B) by tightening the nut (A-3ea)




15. Install the rear propeller shaft(A).

Tightening torque :
58.83 - 68.64Nm(6 - 7kgf.m, 43.39 - 50.63lb-ft)





16. Install the insulator support bracket(A).




17. Install the cross member(A)




18. Install the front propeller shaft(A). (4WD)

Tightening torque :
58.83 - 68.64Nm(6 - 7kgf.m, 43.39 - 50.63lb-ft)





19. Install the exhaust manifold stay bolt (A).








20. Install the front muffler(A) or muffler hanger rubber(B), by removing rear muffler(C).
















21. Connect the oxygen sensor(A) connector.




22. Support the transaxle with a jack

CAUTION:
Be careful not to give a shock or damage to the plastic oil pan.

23. Install the battery (-) terminal.




24. Refill the transmission fluid.
