General Information

General Description

A misfire is a loss of combustion in a cylinder due to poor spark, poor fuel metering, poor compression or incorrect timing. The ECM monitors the crankshaft speed variation to determine if a misfire is detected. The ECM looks for small changes in the crankshaft rotational speed for each cylinders power stroke. Even a small number of misfires may result in excessive exhaust emissions due to the unburned fuel mixture. These emission can cause damage to the catalytic converter. If the misfire is severe enough to possibly cause damage to the catalytic converter, the MIL will flash.

DTC Description

If a misfire exists that exceeds the threshold value, P0304 is set.
