General Description

The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMPS) is a sensor that detects the position of a cam. The CMPS consists of a hall type sensor and a target wheel on the end of the cam. As the target wheel passes the sensor it will produce a high / low signal of 0 to 5 volts. The ECM uses this signal to detect the engine position relative to TDC #1 cylinder which allows the ECM to synchronize the firing of sequential fuel injectors. The CMPS can also be used to control CVVT.

DTC Description

If signal input phase is abnormal, ECM sets DTC P0340.
