Sorento (XM) Transmission Adaptive Learning
This article gives information on setting the transaxle adaptive learning after a reflash or transaxle replacement has occurred. This can also be used for customer shift feel complaints.
The Coolant temperature must be 161F (72C0 or higher and the Transaxle fluid temperature must be higher then 104F (40C) to begin the procedure.
There are 3 steps to this procedure:
1. Idle Speed Control Learning
2. Shift Adaptive Learning
3. Shift Engagement Learning
Proceed to next set of instructions below.
Using GDS, clear current adaptives before attempting the relearning procedure.
This up-shift learning procedure will be performed as follows:
1. Gear selector must be in "D" mode.
2. Drive the vehicle from 0-40 MPH to achieve shifts 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4.
3. Accelerator Position Sensor between 15-20% with rpm between 1,800-2,200 rpm.
4. Repeat this procedure is at least six times.
The static engagement-learning procedure will be performed as follows:
1. Gear selector must be in "N -> D" mode.
2. Vehicle stopped on level surface.
3. A/C OFF.
4. Repeat this procedure with 4 second delay before shifting the lever into another gear (N -> D, D -> N).
5. Repeat this procedure at least six times.
Final or complete adaptive learning will take several miles at different temperature ranges to adjust for the customer driving style however the base setting is necessary to compensate for excessive tolerances in the clutch pack set. Each transaxle can respond differently dependent on driving input from the customer, the TCM is always trying to compensate for manufacturing tolerances and customer driving style.
Transaxle Fluid Type: ATF Type 4 only, DO NOT USE SP-III on this FWD transaxle.
