DATE October 2010
SUBJECT: SERVICE CAMPAIGN: 2011 MY SORENTO PASSENGER SEAT U-BRACKET INSTALLATION (SC085)
This bulletin provides information related to some 2011 Sorento (XM) vehicles built from April 6, 2010 to July 16, 2010. The structural tube under the front passenger seat may have been over-expanded causing pressure on and deformation of the inboard bracket. To improve this condition, the dealer will add a U-bracket under the front inboard corner of the passenger seat as directed in this TSB. Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Campaign on all affected 2011 MY Sorento vehicles in dealer stock prior to retail sales.

Sorento Inspection Procedure:

If label does not exist continue to step one (1) of Service Procedure outlined below.
Service Procedure:
1. Remove seat from the vehicle cover the door panel when removing the seat assembly to prevent scratching Use the electronic service information for step by step seat removal if necessary
2. Use a clean work area with protective covering to prevent soiling or marking of the trim pieces of customer's seat.
Release seat track lever to push seat track rear-ward for ease of access to the working area. Tracks must be reset prior to the seat install.
3. Align the U-bracket over the torsion tube as shown Front edge of bracket should be flush to frame bracket Using a spring loaded center punch, mark the location that needs to be drilled with a 21/64" drill bit.
Tab reinforcement to the support bracket must be correctly aligned, max gap allowed is 2mm between lower U-bracket and seat frame.
NOTICE
Shown in the photo is the U-bracket mounted into position with holes center punched for drilling.
The maximum gap is less then 2 mm and the front edge should be flush with seat frame.
4. Drill two holes as outlined in the previous step.
5. Use shop air to blow the metal shavings away from the seat assembly.
Failure to do so will cause the metallic shavings to adhere to the seat track grease and will cause additional customer concerns.
6. Install the U-bracket and tighten the two retaining bolts and nuts to 18 lbs. ft. (25 Nm) as shown.
NOTICE
Insert bolts from the outside: Retaining nuts should face in-board as shown in photo.
7. Adjust seat tracks so they are even before installing seat into vehicle.
a) Completed repair is shown in photo; seat is ready to be installed in the vehicle.
8. Ensure door trim panels are covered as during the removal to prevent damage.
