SUBJECT: 2011 SORENTO AND SPORTAGE NAVIGATION MAP UPGRADE SERVICE ACTION (SA060)
This bulletin provides information relating to some 2011 Sorento (XM) produced prior to 9/24/2010 and some Sportage (SL) vehicles produced prior to 8/18/2010. A navigation map upgrade is available for those vehicles that are currently in dealer stock. To improve customer satisfaction KIA is launching this Service Action to upgrade the Navigation Map version to 3.07.06. See screen image for version number.
Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected 2011 Sorento (XM) and Sportage (SL) vehicles prior to delivery.
NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer request to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval.
Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service > warranty Coverage > Warranty Coverage Inquiry > Campaign Information). Not Completed Recall/Service Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs > Not Completed recall Recall VIN > Select Report).
The issue number is SA060.
Service Procedure:
1. In order to complete vehicle map upgrade the vehicle audio unit must be powered ON in the 'Accessory Mode', DO NOT leave the ignition in the ON position during this update, due to the increased current draw. The complete MAP update can take up to 90 minutes.
Use the GR8-1299 Diagnostic Charger to complete this step:
a. Attach the "Charge Clamps" to the battery.
b. Plug in and Turn on the GR8-1299.
c. Select "ECM Re-Flash".
d. Follow steps as prompted by the GR8-1299.
e. The GR8-1299 will stabilize and maintain voltage in the system during the map upgrade.
2. With audio ON, press 'Setup button then System Info to check MAP version. If MAP version is not 3.07.06 then proceed with upgrade.
For 2011 Sportage (SL) vehicles select 'MAP then, 'Agree' on the touch screen and 'System Info'.
3. Insert memory stick into USB port and select 'Map Upgrade' button on the touch screen.
CAUTION
USB sticks are labeled according to model: XM or SL. Only load map version designated for the appropriate model.
To avoid $ charges, do not attempt to upgrade maps on vehicles that are not on the SA060 VIN list.
4. If the USB memory stick does not contain the map upgrade software or is not properly connected the system will display an error message.
5. After selecting Map Upgrade, System will display "Do you want to start upgrade?" Press YES, to begin Map upgrade.
NOTICE
It may take several seconds for the NAVI unit to respond.
6. User Authentication screen will appear. Retrieve the Map Authentication Code via one of the following procedures:
a. From the designated internet website. Click on "Dealer" and type in your dealer code, VIN and Hardware device ID.
OR
b. Call the "Call Center" and ask to get the "Map Authentication Code". You will be asked for the "VIN", "Hardware device ID" and Dealer Code.
NOTICE
Using the website will be quicker and more accurate, and will help avoid delays due to intermittently high-volume phone traffic. DO NOT USE THE ADDRESS DISPLAYED ON SCREEN.
7. Enter the Authentication code.
8. Navigation system is ready for the upgrade. System will auto-restart, follow on-screen direction.
9. The upgrade process has started. It may take up to 90 minutes. Do not turn off the audio unit or ignition key OFF during the MAP upgrade.
10. Upgrade complete and then auto - restart. Remove the USB memory stick.
11. Verify that MAP version is 3.07.06, upgrade is complete.
a) Remove battery charger.
