SERVICE ACTION: STARTER SOLENOID WIRE CONTACT WITH
COOLANT LINE BRACKET (SA 035)
This bulletin provides information relating to some 2011 Sorento (XM) vehicles built prior to 3/19/2010 equipped with 24L engines There may be intermittent wire contact on the steel coolant pipe flange where the starter solenoid circuit in the wiring harness may contact ground Over time in some cases this may result in the harness starter solenoid circuit shorting to ground resulting in the 40amp IG fuse opening and becoming inoperative To improve customer satisfaction Kia is launching this Service Action and adding additional protection to the affected area of the wiring harness on all affected 24L Kia Sorento (XM) vehicles that fall within the affected vehicle production range.
Service Procedure:
1. Locate the wiring harness at the steel coolant pipe as shown next to the oil filter housing cooler hoses.
2. Locate the harness retainer to coolant pipe mounting flange (Removal of this clip is discouraged and should not be disconnected)
3. Place the 25 long and 1 diameter plastic conduit tube from the kit onto the wire harness with one end of it contacting the OE tie strap retainer on the wiring harness extending over the Y-shaped harness split Ensure the open end of the conduit tube faces away from mounting bracket as shown here.
4. Install three (3) tie straps tightly and securely with two tie straps 05 inch away from each end of conduit tubing as shown and the 3rd one in between the two straps
a) Trim the excess wire tie strap as shown in photo
b) Verify if the retainer on the wiring harness to mounting flange is still secured
c) Repair is complete.
