SC087 - 2011 MY SORENTO REAR BRAKE CALIPER
INSPECTION VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN
NOTICE
Changes are also noted by asterisks.
This bulletin provides information relating to the inspection of the rear brake calipers and replacement if necessary on certain 2011 Sorento (XM) vehicles manufactured from September 14, 2010 through October 4, 2010. One or both of the rear brake calipers may not have been properly machined. As a result rear brake fluid may leak from the rear brake caliper piston. If this occurs the following symptoms may occur:
^ The Low Brake Fluid Level Warning Light on the instrument panel will illuminate indicating that the brake fluid is low
^ If the vehicle continues to be driven with the Low Brake Fluid Level Warning Light illuminated the driver will experience a soft or spongy feel in the brake pedal and possibly increased pedal travel to obtain braking power
^ If both indicators are ignored without service being obtained braking performance will be reduced and in an extreme case may result in the loss of brake function
To identify the affected vehicles the lot number marked on the caliper housing must be inspected before attempting any repair. The date codes which are stamped (3 digit code) into the calmer housing that need replacement are the following: GN3, G03, GP3, GQ3, GS3.
NOTE:
This TSB also requires the inspection of the wheels and paint around the wheel well area for resulting damage from leaking brake fluid. If damage or corrosion exists, contact your DPSM.
