P0197 Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Low Input - General Information
Component Location
General Description
The Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) system uses engine oil pressure to change the camshaft timing according to engine operating conditions. Engine oil viscosity changes according to engine temperature. The Oil Temperature Sensor (OTS) signal along with coolant and intake air temperature is used by the PCM to compensate for changes in oil viscosity when commanding the Oil Control Valve (OCV). The OTS measures the engine oil temperature before the engine oil flows through the OCV.
DTC Description
The PCM monitors the output signals from Oil Temperature Sensor every 15 seconds. If the signal is low for more than 12.5 seconds, the PCM sets a P0197 DTC.
