Charging System - Guidelines When Performing Repairs

CHARGING SYSTEM REPAIRS
To: ALL RANGE ROVER DEALERS
When replacing an alternator, regulator or alternator belt always perform the following checks prior to returning the vehicle to the customer:
1. Check the battery state of charge with a temperature compensated hydrometer.
2. Load test the battery.
3. If necessary, charge the battery.
4. Check charging system output.
5. Recheck belt tension.
Due to the capacity of the Range Rover battery a load test alone will not always reveal one which is in a low state of charge. Premature belt wear and loosening can occur if the vehicle is driven with a discharged battery coupled with the use of high current draw power accessories such as the air conditioning or rear window defogger.
