Air Intake Hose Improvements

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE

SITUATION:

RELIABILITY IMPROVEMENTS OF AIR INTAKE HOSE

A newly designed air intake hose configuration featuring an improved support bracket has been introduced into production. The new design may be fitted to earlier vehicles. The change will enhance durability and prevent the hose clamps from loosening.

RESOLUTION:

INSTALL NEW DESIGN ON AFFECTED VEHICLE

On Defender 110 and Defender 90 vehicles the early design air intake hose and clamp configuration has proven to be insufficient for the demands placed on the vehicle. To correct a problem in this area install the new design bracket. hose and clamps.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

INSTALLATION OF NEW STYLE INTAKE HOSE

1. Release the hose clamps securing the existing hose. Discard the clamps.

2. Remove the hose and discard it.





3. Position new bracket onto the throttle cable support bracket as shown in Figure 1 view A.

4. Fit the two bolts and nuts. Tighten nuts to 10 Nm (90 lb. in.).

5. Position the air flow meter harness to enable the new hose to be fitted.

6. Orient the stepped flange end of the hose toward the air flow meter stub pipe (Refer to Figure 1 view B) and the plain end of the hose to the plenum chamber neck (Refer to Figure 1 view C).

7. Route the new hose under the throttle cable and brake servo hoses.

8. Install the two new hose clamps over each end of the hose and install the hose ends on the air flow meter and plenum.

9. Position the hose so that the area of the hose that is covered by an additional sleeve sits securely in the bracket arm.

NOTE:
Ensure that the tie wrap is installed at the bottom of the support bracket in the following step.

10. Feed a tie wrap between the sleeve and arm and secure to the bottom of the bracket to ensure that the hose is correctly positioned (Refer to Figure 1 view D).

11. Rotate the hose clamp screw heads to the top and torque to the hose clamps to 3.5 Nm (34 lb. in.).
