Engine Does Not Start
FAULT INDICATIONSEngine cranks normally but will not start. Symptom is permanent (not intermittent).
FAULT TRACING CONDITIONS
Before fault tracing, ensure that:
^ No diagnostic trouble codes are present. Refer to Computers and Control Systems. Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes
^ The engine cranks normally (starter motor operates), and
^ The engine is mechanically sound (compression, etc.)
^ All fuses are clean and intact
FUEL PUMP
^ Open circuit in fuel pump relay wiring (supply, ground, or signal)
^ Fuel pump relay signal lead short circuited to ground or power supply
^ Open circuit in fuel pump power supply or ground
^ Excessive connector resistance at relay or fuel pump
^ Bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay
INJECTORS
^ Open circuit in injection control unit power/ground
^ Short or Open circuit in vehicle speed sensor lead
^ Short or Open circuit to injector ground or power supply
^ Faulty injector(s)
FUEL PRESSURE
^ Incorrect fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Test. Testing and Inspection
^ Fuel tank is empty
