SITUATION:
MIL ILLUMINATION, CODE P0461
In some cases an Advanced EVAPS equipped vehicle can have a MIL illumination with a Fuel Level Sensing Fault P0461 set. If the gauge is functioning normally and Fault PO461 is present, follow the procedure outlined below.
If the fuel gauge is inoperative, the fuel gauge problem must be resolved before proceeding with the PROM replacement procedure. It is likely that the problem that is causing the fuel gauge to be inoperative is also causing the MIL illumination
RESOLUTION:
REPLACE GEMS PROM
NOTE:
Do not replace the fuel pump assembly in an attempt to resolve this problem.
Fault P0461 with a normally functioning fuel gauge can be resolved by a software change to the PROM of the GEMS ECM.
NOTE:
The repairs outlined in this TIB are to be performed to resolve customer complaint of the symptoms described.
