Alarm remote buttons on the 1996 Discovery have been wearing out prematurely. A new remote housing is now available with improved buttons. It is required that all remotes for a specific vehicle be modified during the same visit. Following is the procedure to change the housing and buttons.
The diagnostic steps and repair procedures detailed in this bulletin were developed as an element of the Land Rover Way Operation PRIDE. This TIB provides a library location for PRIDE information within the Land Rover North America technical literature system.
ACTION REQUIRED
Upon customer complaint for the symptoms outlined, perform the specified repairs.

PROCEDURE
Perform the diagnostic procedures and repairs outlined for the repair of Discover Remote Buttons.

Normal warranty procedures and policies apply.

Removal
1. With a suitable thin tool, pry open the two halves of the original remote.
2. Remove battery.
3. Using side cutters, remove the two retaining clips holding the printed circuit board in place (figure 1).
4. Carefully withdraw the printed circuit board.
NOTE:
Take care not to touch the printed circuit board. Doing so may damage it.
Installation
1. Place button assembly into new upper case half, making sure to fully engage buttons into case opening (figures 2 and 3).
2. Place printed circuit board into new upper case half, snapping board into two retaining fingers fully (figure 3).
3. Reinstall battery.
4. On the new label provided, write the date/week code printed on the label inside the original lower case half.
5. Place the new label inside the new lower case half.
6. Install new lower case half and snap together.
7. Test remote for operation. If not functional, perform up to 8 presses of the "unlock" button to resynchronize.
8. If still not functional, use TestBook to relearn all remotes.
