Re: Safety Recall # 96V-247

Dear Land Rover Owner

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Rover Group, Ltd., manufacturer of Land Rover vehicles, has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1995 and 1996 Land Rover Discovery vehicles within a specific build range. The defect may or may not be present in all vehicles, however, the suspect components will be checked and, if found to be defective, repaired or replaced free of charge on all affected vehicles within the specified build range.

On some vehicles, a side door may fail to latch fully when being closed, causing the door to "bounce' back off the door seals. In rare circumstances, this condition could lead to inadvertent opening of the affected side door which would place an occupant seated next to the door at risk of harm.

To minimize the risk of inadvertent door opening prior to the Recall inspection, please close all doors firmly and verify that each door is correctly latched by applying pressure from within. Once assured that the latch is engaged, lock the door by pushing down on the door sill button. As always, take advantage of an additional safety margin for you and your passengers by insisting that everyone wear their seat belts.

We will inspect the integrity of all door latching systems and perform repairs, if necessary, to correct any defects found. The parts necessary to complete this action are currently available at your Land Rover Retailer. The time required to perform this Recall, depending on the extent of work necessary, could vary between 30 minutes and 6 hours. The personnel at your dealer are fully prepared to serve you.

Please contact your Land Rover Retailer to arrange for the work to be performed as soon as possible Your dealer is prepared to make every effort to perform the modification at a convenient time which fits your schedule.
