Improvements have been made to the retention of the Crankshaft position (CKP) sensor and the CKP sensor heat shield on vehicles within the above VIN ranges. New bolts have been introduced into production which hold the CKP sensor and a new heat shield in position more securely.

The diagnostic steps and repair procedures detailed on the following pages were developed as an element of the Land Rover Way OPERATION PRIDE. This TIB provides a library location for PRIDE informationn within the Land Rover North America technical literature system.

ACTION REQUIRED
If the crankshaft position sensor is found to be loose or if it is replaced for any reason, the improved bolts and a new improved heat shield should be installed.

PROCEDURE

NOTE: Always use the new heat shield and correct bolts for crankshaft sensor replacement.

The new mounting bolts are two different lengths. The longer bolt installs through the heat shield (see figure in procedure).

Perform the diagnostic procedures and repairs outlined below for repair of the crankshaft sensor and heat shield

REMOVAL





1. Loosen top (long) bolt Remove and discard the old heat shield.

2. Disconnect the CKP multiplug.

3. Remove lower (short) bolt and remove CKP sensor.

INSTALLATION


1. Position the new CKP sensor, and install new lower bolt

2. Tighten to 6 Nm (54 lbf.in.).

3. Install new heat shield, making sure to route wiring hamess into the cut-out in the heat shield.

4. Install top bolt and tighten to 6 Nm (54 lbf.in.).
