Squeaks And Rattles - Repair Procedures

DETAIL
A variety of squeaks and rattles may occur in Range Rover vehicles. They Could be difficult to trace and rectify. To determined the proper repair for each cause of the symptom, a list of critical areas for investigation and rectification has been outlined. For further diagnostics, refer to Technical Information Bulletin 76/12/96/US.

The diagnostic steps and repair procedures detailed on the following pages were developed as an element of the Land Rover Way Operation PRIDE. This TIB provides a library location for PRIDE information within the Land Rover North America technical literature system.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of squeaks and rattles, refer to the table in page 2 to determine the area of concern. Then perform the specified repairs.

STC3095 - Anti-rattle Tape
NTC7294 - Spare Wheel Pads (qty. 3)
ASR2464LNF - Sill Button (qty.4)
LRNASJ5OO3 - Rubber Buffer (qty. 4)

PROCEDURE
Perform the diagnostic procedures and repairs outlined in the following pages for the repair of squeaks and rattles.





ILLUSTRATION

Normal warranty procedures and policies apply.

COMP. CODE

SRO

76.37.89.31 - Time 0.4 hr.
Replace first door sill button.

76.37.89.32 - Time 0.2 hr.
Install each additional door sill button.

76.10.89.41 - Time 1.0 hr.
(See table)

80.15.89.26 - Time 0.2 hr.
Apply anti-rattle tape to vent to eliminate rattle.





NOTE:

Front And Rear Door Sill Button





1. Remove the relevant door casing as described in Chassis and Body (Section 76) of the Workshop manual.

2. Remove sill button from actuating rod.

3. Install new sill button.

4. Refit door casing.

Upper Tailgate Lower Trim

1. Remove the tailgate finisher as described in section 76, Chassis and Body, of the Workshop Manual.

2. Place a strip of foam tape between the two halves of the trim panel.

3. Reinstall the trim panel.







Spare Wheel Cover Rattle





1. Apply anti-raffle tape (STC3095) to spare wheel cover support arm, aligning with the metal spring clip (Figure 2).





2. Apply three short strips of anti-rattle tape to the underside of the spare wheel cover release catch handle (Figure 3).

NOTE:
Ensure that foam does not stop catch from working correctly.





3. Apply strip of foam tape to spare wheel cover catch (Figure 4).

Spare Wheel Rattle

1. Remove the spare wheel.





2. Install the three rubber pads (NTC7294) as shown in Figure 5.

3. Refit the spare wheel.

Rear Lower Tailgate Rattle

1. Remove Rear Fog Guard Lamp as described in section 86 Electrical of the Workshop Manual.





2. Fit two rubber buffers (SJ5003) to each fog guard lamp as shown in Figure 6.

3. Refit lamp and tailgate board.

Alarm Receiver

1. Locate the alarm receiver. Refer to Section 86 Electrical of the Workshop Manual.

2. Unscrew receiver.

3. Place small length of foam tape on the underside of the receiver.

4. Reinstall the receiver and trim panel.

Dashboard Vent

1. Remove center dashboard vent as described in section 86 Electrical of the Workshop Manual.





2. Separate the two halves of the vent by disengaging the plastic clips (Figure 7).

NOTE:
Ensure that the tape covers the vent flap pivot holes.

3. Apply anti-rattle tape to the underside of the inner portion of the vent assembly.

4. Reassemble vent.

5. Reinstall the vent into the dashboard.
