Collision Repair Guidelines for Restraint System

In the event of a collision involving SRS deployment, specific components of the system must be replaced. In addition, other checks and replacements may be necessary for any collision, even if SRS did not deploy.

Always include replacement of safety belts, airbags and other related components as listed below when estimating the cost of body repair damages.

Replacement Policy Guidelines:

Safety belts in use during impact must be replaced after any collision involving more than minor "parking" damage to the vehicle.

If the SRS has deployed, the following components must be replaced:

^ Air bag modules for both drivers and passenger side
^ Rotary coupler
^ Diagnostic Control Unit (DCU) and retaining hardware
^ Airbag crash sensors (on equipped vehicles) and retaining hardware
^ SRS wiring harness

CAUTION:
Do not attempt any repairs to any element of the SRS wiring harness. The only repair option is replacement of the complete harness.

A thorough check of the following components is required after any SRS deployment. These components should be replaced if there is visible damage or distortion:

^ Knee bolster (including glove box and fuse box cover)
^ Fascia (including passenger side air bag mounting bracket)
^ SRS indicator lamp and associated circuitry
^ Steering wheel (if distorted)
^ Steering column (if distorted) and mounting hardware
^ Seats (including mounting and adjusting systems)
^ Bumpers (including mounting brackets and crush cans)
