A small number of reports have been received which indicate that ignition timing has been set incorrectly at the point of manufacture from the above VIN numbers.





It is possible that this condition may be due to a parallax effect caused by the angle at which the timing marks are viewed. To ensure that any confusion is alleviated the correct way to view the the timing marks is from the left side of the engine looking beneath the power steering pump towards the torsional vibration damper (shown by the arrows in the illustration.)

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of poor engine running and at 30.000 mile service intervals Check the ignition timing as described in the workshop manual.

PROCEDURE

Follow the procedure in section 86- adjustment- ignition timing, viewing the timing marks as shown in the illustration opposite.
