Reluctor Test - Discovery Manual Transmission
Note:Because of reluctor ring location in flywheel machined groove, damaged or bent teeth are unlikely. visual inspection for lateral damage may be required.
1. Place vehicle on hoist and raise to gain access underneath.
2. Remove four bolts and three nuts from bell housing access plate. Remove plate complete with gasket.
3. With suitable socket and ratchet, turn the engine until the gap in the reluctor wheel is even with the rear engine block surface.
Caution:
Gauge tool used on automatic reluctor rings may not be used on manual transmission vehicles.
4. Inspect ring for damage and straighten as required.
Check Crankshaft Position Sensor
1. If damage was noted during visual examination of the crank sensor and reluctor ring, replace the sensor.
2. Check that the crank sensor is securely retained and its securing bolt is torqued to 6 Nm. (4.5 lbf.ft).
3. Check that depth of sensor in tabs is 4.5 mm +/- 1 mm (0.180 in +/- 0.040 in).
