Automatic Gear Selector - Graphic Film Torn
22/07/9444/06/94/US
SUBJECT:
Automatic Gear Selector Graphic Film Torn
MODEL:
Range Rover
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
All Range Rover from LH 647645 to LH 653089
DETAIL
Instance have arisen whereby the automatic gear selector film has torn around the gear lever ball. Investigations by Land Rover engineers have found that due to assembly tolerances the automatic gear selector slide housing can be secured in place incorrectly. This results in a side load being applied on the bail which can tear the plastic film. To overcome this condition the four fixing holes used to secure the assembly to the gearbox tunnel have been enlarged to provide greater flexibility when positioning the assembly central to the gear lever.
(Note:
Discovery is fitted with a similar auto graphics assembly and could exhibit the same failure, in instances where this is noted follow the instructions below.)
ACTION REQUIRED
Upon customer complaint replace the torn film but poor to fitting the assembly to the tunnel enlarge the four fixing holes to 6 mm diameter. Failure to enlarge the holes may result in a repeat failure.
