Exterior E-post Trim Finisher Repair
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
NEW RANGE ROVER (LP) ALL
SITUATION:
EXTERIOR E-POST TRIM FINISHER IS LOOSE AT UPPER PORTION OF FINISHER
Some exterior E-post trim finishers are coming loose at their uppermost fastening point. The Velcro pad that retains this portion of the finisher loses adhesion (predominantly in the summer months) with the body or finisher. This allows the finisher to rattle and stand off of body creating a gap between the body and finisher.
RESOLUTION:
BOND UPPER PORTION OF FINISHER TO BODY WITH POLYURETHANE (PU) ADHESIVE
Following the procedures outlined in this TIB, the molding can be solidly attached to the body by applying a PU adhesive.
NOTE: The repairs outlined in this TIB are to be performed to resolve customer complaint of the symptoms described.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
BONDING OF EXTERIOR E-POST FINISHER
1. With the tailgate open, carefully pry away the upper "ear" of the exterior E-post finisher from the body and remove both the hook and loop portions of the Velcro pad.
2. Insure that the foam pad behind the Velcro is removed from the finisher before proceeding (See Figure 1).
3. Thoroughly clean both surfaces to be bonded on the vehicle body and trim finisher with adhesive primer and allow to dry.
4. Apply PU adhesive to both bonding surfaces as shown in the figure. The adhesive replaces the Velcro pad.
5. Firmly press trim finisher onto body to create bond and secure with masking tape for two hours to allow for initial curing before vehicle delivery.
