DETAIL

A fault has been identified whereby the inner cable may become disconnected from the front interior release handle assembly. The cause is too much travel on the handle after the latch is released which applies undue stress on the release cable. The repair procedure below has been developed to limit the interior handle travel. In addition, a modification to the cable end will provide further protection against this problem.

ACTION REQUIRED

During Pre-Delivery Inspection, or upon earliest opportunity, inspect vehicles within the affected VIN range to determine if this campaign has been performed. If a campaign sticker is not present follow the outlined procedure below.

PARTS INFORMATION

STC3369 - Polyurethane Buffer (2 per vehicle)

Loctite 495 - Source Locally

Service Campaign Sticker - Refer to Service Bulletin R95-004 "Work Procedures" section.

PROCEDURE

1. Check for Campaign Sticker under hood (Behind right headlight area). If it is not present continue.

2. Remove interior door handle escutcheon.

3. Check whether the release handle operates through entire arc of motion (i.e. handle contacts molding) or if it's prevented from full operation by tension in the release cable (i.e. door latch opens before full motion). If handle operates through full arc, skip steps 4 and 5.

4. Using needle nose pliers hold polyurethane buffer STC3369 and apply Loctite 495 to contact area, position STC3369 (as shown in illustration).

5. Ensure adhesion (approximately 1 minute).

6. Disconnect the release cable from the interior handle. Using two pair of needle nose pliers increase the bend of the release cable end beyond 90° (to make hook more extreme).

7. Refit release cable to interior handle.

8. Check the operation of the door handle mechanism.

9. Re-fit the door handle escutcheon.

10. Fill out and fit a Service Campaign Sticker.
