An improved door mirror installation has been developed to address mirror vibration concerns. The installation consists of a revised door mirror and improved door reinforcement; both are necessary to achieve vibration reduction. All vehicles from VIN 346800 are fitted with the complete installation on both driver's and passenger's side; however, the door structure improvements were introduced on some vehicles prior to this within the VIN range VA345000 to VA346800.
To allow placement of the improved mirror to earlier vehicles, resolving customer complaint of vibration, a door reinforcement bracket has been developed to provide the necessary door structure improvement This bracket is supplied with the revised mirror and should be used only on vehicles that do not have the improved door structure. Follow the procedure detailed below to determine which type of door is fitted.
The diagnostic steps and repair procedures detailed in this bulletin were developed as an element of the Land Rover Way OPERATION PRIDE. This TIB provides a library location for PRIDE information within the Land Rover North America technical literature system.

Upon customer complaint for the symptoms outlined, perform the specified repairs.

PROCEDURE
Perform the diagnostic procedures and repairs outlined for the repair of Door Mirror Repair.

REMOVAL
1. Release interior trim covering the mirror retaining screws.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the speaker.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the door mirror.
4. Remove 3 retaining bolts and pull the mirror down and away from the vehicle to separate the mirror from the door frame.
INSPECTION
1. Inspect the door and compare it to the doors shown in(figure 2).
2. If the door matches the type "B" door (figure 2), the reinforcement bracket that comes with the mirror replacement kit can be discarded.
3. If the door matches the type "A" door (figure 2), the reinforcement bracket that comes with the replacement kit must be used to further reinforce the mirror during installation.
INSTALLATION
NOTE:
If the reinforcement on the door is type "A", start with step 1 of the installation procedure. If the reinforcement is type "B", skip to step 2.
1. Apply 3M strip caulk (08578) to shaded area of the bracket (figure 3). Slip the tubes of the bracket through the two lower mirror attachment holes on the door frame.
NOTE:
3M strip caulk can be purchased at Big A, Car Quest, NAPA and similar stores.
2. Install the mirror assembly to the door, checking to make sure that the mirror is fitted properly.
3. Install the large washer on one of the screws and fit to the top boss of the minor assembly. Tighten the screw finger tight.
4. Fit the two small washers to the remaining two screws and fit through the door casing bracket to the two lower bosses on the mirror assembly. tighten the screws finger tight.
5. while steadying the mirror with one hand, torque the screws to 7 Nm. (62 lbs. in.) in the following order (figure 4):
- Front Lower
- Top
- Rear Lower
NOTE:
The joint between the mirror and the door is termed a "soft joint". After approximately 5 Nm. (44 lbs. in.) of torque is applied to the screws, they will continue to turn for quite a number of times before the torque will build up to the required 7 Nm.(62 lbs. in.). This is particularly noticeable for the top screw. This is required so that the mirror properly mates itself to the door frame.
6. Connect the electrical connectors to the door mirror.
7. Connect the electrical connector to the speaker and install the interior trim.
