Winter PDI Oil Change Time Limits

SITUATION:

WINTER CHANGE OF OIL AT PDI

Oil viscosity and battery condition have a significant effect upon engine cranking speed, particularly in cold temperatures. 5W/30 or 5W/40 engine oil and the starting procedure specified in TIB 12/07/94/US will ensure that the best cranking speed and lubrication characteristics are achieved in extremely cold weather.

RESOLUTION:

PDI OIL CHANGE BETWEEN 1 OCTOBER AND 30 MARCH

NOTE:
The need for a change to lower viscosity oil at PDI is limited to the winter months. A PDI oil change to 5W/30 or 5W/40 oil is not warranted at other times of the year and should not be performed.





To ensure that proper viscosity oil is used during warm weather driving, oil changes to 5W/30 or 5W/40 engine oil at PDI may only be performed when cold weather driving is the expected condition during break-in. Land Rover has determined that the period between October 1st and March 30th is the limit for the PDI oil changes in cold-weather states and Canada. Refer to the map above. The shaded states are defined as cold-weather states where the PDI oil change should be performed during the October through March period.

Synthetic oils should not be used before the 7500 mile service. Use 5W/30 or 5W/40 engine oil (Mineral oil only)
