DETAIL

To give an optimum turning Circle on Range Rover 4.0/4.6, a revised setting distance for the steering lock stops was introduced at VIN 327376.

Vehicles within the VIN range 318176 to 327375 must also have the lock stop settings checked/adjusted to the revised condition.

ACTION REQUIRED

At pre-delivery inspection or first service carry out the procedure detailed below on all vehicles within the above VIN range.

PROCEDURE

Refer to the workshop manual section 57 lock stop adjustment.

1. Check the color of the paint on the lock stop bolt heads.

- If white paint is evident take no further action.

- If yellow paint is evident follow the procedure shown below.

2. Check/set front wheel alignment to 0° 5' to 0° 15' toe out.





3. Set lock stops to 23.3 to 23.7 mm, between the underside of the head and the outer face of the locking nut (see illustration).

4. Mark the lock stop bolt heads with white paint to identify that this work has been carried out.

Note:
Apply Loctite 270 to the lock stop threads, torque the lock nut to 50-55 Nm.

5. With the vehicle set to standard ride height, apply full lock in both directions and ensure that the road wheels are clear of the front axle damper bracket.
