Suspension - EAS Slow Downward Operation
No: 60/02/97/NASRef: WSM Section 60
Issue: 1
Date: 09/19/97
Air Suspension Exhaust Silencer
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE
RANGE ROVER (LP) ALL
SITUATION:
SLOW OPERATION OF EAS IN DOWNWARD DIRECTION
Reports have been received of vehicles with slow downward air suspension operation. The likely cause for this symptom is the presence of an external red-sponge protective cover over the exhaust silencer.
The sponge is fitted to prevent any under-hood wax impregnating the fabric of the silencer during manufacture. It should have been removed after the waxing process was completed. Whenever replacement filters are installed, the protective sponge must be removed before installation.
RESOLUTION:
REMOVE RED PROTECTIVE COVER FROM EXHAUST SILENCER
If a vehicle exhibits slow downward operation of the air suspension system during PDI, or if a customer should complain of this symptom, check to ensure that the red protective sponge has been removed. When installing a new silencer, ensure the protective cover is removed and discarded.
