Transfer Gearbox Output Seal - Oil Leaks
13/04/9441/02/94/US
SUBJECT:
Transfer Gearbox-Borg Warner Output Seal Oil Leaks
MODEL:
Range Rover
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
All derivatives from LH 647645 to LH 650095
DETAIL
It has been found that a number of vehicles in the above VIN range have developed an oil leak from the output seals. Further investigation found that the cause of this problem was due to the transfer gearbox breather pipe in the engine compartment becoming embedded in the bulkhead NVH pad material during assembly, thus restricting the air flow in the pipe. This can result in the transfer gearbox becoming pressurized and forcing oil out past the seal.
ACTION REQUIRED
At Pre-Delivery Inspection or first service check the routing of the breather pipe at the bulkhead and inspect the pipe end for blockage.
PARTS INFORMATION
UKC 6684 Tie wrap
PROCEDURE
Check the breather pipe routing and pipe end for blockage.
Using a tie wrap secure the pipe to the lifting eye bracket at the rear of the engine.
Wipe the area around the output seal to remove any surplus oil.
WARRANTY
Normal warranty policy and procedure apply.
