An electrical short circuit of the sunvisor vanity mirror illumination Can occur if pressure is applied to the mirror surface. The conductive rear surface of the mirror may contact the two illumination circuit supply bus bars. Shorting out the mirror will cause Fuse 6 to blow.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint for the symptoms outlined, perform the specified repairs. The possibility of an electrical short can be eliminated by following the procedure below as a preventative measure.

NOTE 1: The Electrical Troubleshooting Manual for Range Rover incorrectly identifles that the sunvisor vanity mirror illumination circuit is connected to Fuse 13.


NOTE 2: TestBook communication with the auto gearbox ECM is not possible until Fuse 6 has been replaced. No gearbox faults or ABS faults are stored when Fuse 6 fails.

CLEARING FAULTS GENERATED BY VANITY MIRROR SHORT

1. A short by the vanity mirror results in the following symptoms:

^ "Fuse Six Failed" message
^ "Gearbox Fault" message with the gearbox defaulted to 3rd gear only
^ "ABS Fault" message with the ABS warning lamp illuminated
^ Illumination of the MIL light

2. On Range Rovers with the above symptoms perform the following:

^ Replace Fuse 6.
^ Clear the ABS and check engine faults using Testbook.

3. Follow the procedure below to prevent reoccurrence.

NOTE: Perform the following steps to both driver and passenger sunvisor vanity mirrors.

MIRROR REMOVAL AND REPAIR

1. Fold down the sunvisor and lift up the mirror flap.

2. Using a thin blade, carefully release the mirror molding from the surround in the sunvisor and remove the mirror.

3. Apply two layers of 2" masking tape to the reverse side of the mirror to insulate the mirror from the illumination circuit electrical supply bus bars.

4. Install the mirror and snap molding back into the surround.
